Key Characteristics of the 15 KW Diesel Engine
The engine runs at 1800 RPM’s and is a slow turning liquid cooled (has a radiator ) diesel which is meant to be run for continuous power during an outage. This is a 4 cylinder engine with cylinder liners. This makes engine overhaul easy. The engine is rated EPA Tier 4. The owner can expect a minimum of 10,000 hours of usage. With proper care it will last indefinitely.

Fuel Tank / Consumption / Capacity
30 Gallon drop tank
At half load this tank will allow you to run 62 hours on a tank of fuel.
Fuel Consumption
Consumption at ½ load .8 gallons and hour
Consumption at ¾ load 1.1 gallons per hour
Consumption at full load 1.5 gallons per hour
Automatic Transfer Switch
This generator comes with a wall mounted 200AMP Automatic Transfer Switch. It provides easy installation to your building so the auto start and stop features can work when the power goes out. With the Transfer Switch installed your generator is capable of Auto Starting when it detects a loss in voltage from your mains. Conversely it will Auto Stop when it detects a stable voltage in your mains.

Why buy an air cooled propane or natural gas generator with a life expectancy of 3,000 hours when you can get a liquid cooled diesel that will last 10,000-20,000 hours for the same price and it burns less fuel?

Facts you should know before purchasing a Standby Generator
Why should you purchase a Diesel Engine
For back-up power systems diesel generators are the ultimate choice. Diesel engines run at lower RPM’S, and offer up to three times or more fuel economy over other type of engines. Diesel engines have long operational life and the ability to handle heavy work loads. Diesel engines use much less fuel then gas or propane. These units run at 1800 RPM. They usually are a bit quieter, and are water cooled. They have fully pressurized lubrication systems, and sophisticated fuel systems. These units offer clean power output, and very low maintenance. These units are a favorite in smaller commercial applications, and are often the system of choice with the best home standby units, and are often used as the sole power source in remote areas. Life expectancy is easily 10,000 to 20,000 hours.
Diesel Verses Propane Fuel
Q: Why is diesel the fuel of choice among most large users such as hospitals, police and fire departments?
Industrial Grade Diesel Generators
A: Diesel fuel is much more economical and safer than any other fuel available.
20 gallons of diesel fuel = 47.20 gallons of LP gas or 10 - 20Lb. containers
50 gallons of diesel fuel = 118 gallons (28 - 20 Lb. cylinders) of LP gas.
Q: Liquid propane lasts "forever". Isn't that better than diesel fuel?
A: No. Diesel fuel has a very long life. In our experience, 1 year is not out of the ordinary and when treated with diesel fuel treatment, up to 2 years in not unusual. We know from real-life experience that we can return to a diesel engine that has not been run in a year, charge the batteries, change the fuel filter and RUN THAT ENGINE, with no adverse effects.
Although it is true that liquid propane has a very long shelf life, when you have to have the equivalent amount in relation to the amount you would need for diesel fuel, do you REALLY want that much of a volatile product sitting on the shelf? Remember that you need 2.36 gallons of LP gas to equal 1 gallon of diesel fuel. Over twice the amount of diesel fuel. (Please note that 1gallon of LP gas equals 4.23 pounds at 60 degrees Fahrenheit.)
To many that may not be an issue at all, but to us, that is a very large quantity of very volatile fuel to have around, especially near the house!
